What we actually look for
Urine that stays dark through the morning, a resting heart rate that jumps on easy days, dizziness when you stand, and constipation that arrived with a new training block are more useful than a generic “eight glasses.” Athletes and GLP-1 patients lose thirst cues. We ask about fluids the same way we ask about protein.
Water is not a detox. It is the cheapest way to keep blood volume, temperature, and the gut moving. If you found this URL from “benefits of drinking more water,” the benefit is function - not a cleanse.
When more water is the wrong first move
Hyponatremia from overdrinking during long events is real. So is edema, heart failure, and a sodium problem that looks like thirst. If you are drinking constantly and still feel wrecked, that is a visit - labs and a history - not another gallon.
How much water should I drink?
Enough that urine is pale through most of the day, with extra around training and heat. We do not prescribe a single number for every adult in West Dundee.
Can drinking too much water make you pee all night?
Yes. Front-load fluids earlier in the day if nights are the problem. Call if swelling or sudden thirst is new.
