Concussion Care & Baseline Testing

A concussion is a brain injury. CIHW treats concussion care and athletic baseline testing as sports medicine: history, exam, and a return-to-play path you can follow.

Who this is for

When concussion care & baseline testing fits.

This sits inside Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation at 999 W. Main, West Dundee - not as a standalone menu item.

Youth and adult athletes in the 60118 area, and parents who have been told the school baseline is enough.

How we work

What happens after you start.

  1. 01

A real baseline when possible - not only a computerized snapshot that can be invalid

  2. 02

Post-injury evaluation of cognition, balance, neck, and visual-vestibular signs

  3. 03

    A staged return-to-learn and return-to-play plan

  4. 04

Coordination with training and sports medicine so the next hit is not the first conversation

What this is not

A school laptop baseline is often invalid. We will not clear an athlete on “I feel fine” the same week.

Clinical baseline, then a staged return

Cognition, balance, neck, visual-vestibular - compared to our file. Return-to-learn before return-to-play. Families from Algonquin and Crystal Lake use this for that reason.

Questions people actually ask

Questions about Concussion Care & Baseline Testing

Still deciding? Start Here or call (224) 535-8707.

01

Why isn’t a school computer test enough?

Many computerized baselines are invalid. Dr. Mitchell has told local programs that for years. We offer a clinical athletic assessment you can actually compare after a hit.

02

Where can I get baseline concussion testing near Chicago?

CIHW in West Dundee offers baseline concussion testing for youth and adult athletes across the Chicago area - Kane, McHenry, and Cook counties - as a clinical athletic assessment you can compare after a hit.

03

Is baseline concussion testing available in Illinois outside Chicago proper?

Yes. Most families driving to this baseline concussion testing are from Elgin, Algonquin, Crystal Lake, and the Fox River corridor, not the city itself. The clinical exam is the same regardless of which Illinois suburb you start from.

04

What happens after a suspected concussion if we already have a baseline?

We compare the post-injury exam - cognition, balance, neck, and visual-vestibular signs - against the baseline on file, then build a staged return-to-learn and return-to-play plan instead of guessing from symptoms alone.
